We are delighted to announce that Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) convened its 14th convention on Wednesday September 10, 2008 and following four days of intensive work came to a close on Sunday, September 14th. The Convention was made up of all Party delegates as well as the leadership members of the Party.

The 14th Convention convened during special circumstances surrounding the region and abroad, as a result important issues that were outlined in the political report to the convention were discussed and were carefully deliberated. The delegates participated actively in the debates leading to the presentation of the report that was very unique in this convention.

The debate on the report lasted for two days and following this the Constitution of the Party was debated, where a draft had been submitted to the delegates for deliberation prior to the start of the Convention, and following substantial changes to the internal programme and constitution, the new constitution was approved in the convention.

During the convention many messages of solidarity were received from various Kurdish, Iranian and foreign organizations that some of them were read out in the convention room. Furthermore, the Convention conveyed several special messages to the families of martyrs, political prisoners, the people of Kurdistan, members and cadres of the Party, the UN human rights Council, youth, women, students, and the Congress of Nationalities fro Federal Iran. The Convention, finally submitted a draft policy recommendation for the new leadership.

The National Committee elected in the 14th Convention elected Mustafa Hejri as the Secretary-general of the Party in a brief session on Sunday and announced his election to the delegates and Convention members. The Secretary-general following his election went on the stage and made some remarks where he thanked all the participants of the Convention including those who facilitated the security aspects of this important gathering. The Secretary-general in his remarks, once more, stressed on the objectives of the Convention, the Convention of Growth and Prevailing Struggle. More materials will be made public on the convention.
